PGY1 Residency Learning Experiences
The PGY1 Residency Program at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital includes required month long learning experiences, elective learning experiences, and required longitudinal learning experiences.
Each resident’s research project will be presented at the Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference or similar virtual conference. Residents are required to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and will be expected to present a poster about their residency research project.

- Administration

- Antimicrobial Stewardship / Infectious Diseases
- Drug Information/Drug Use Policy
- Emergency Medicine
- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- Elective Learning Experiences - 2 months total
- Additional Experience in Required Rotation
- Neurotrauma Intensive Care Unit (NTICU) / Progressive Respiratory Care Unit (PRCU)
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
- Transitions of Care
- Required Longitudinal Experiences (with quarterly evaluations)
- Drug Information/Drug Use Policy - 6 months
- Medication Safety - 6 months
- Precepting and Education - 12 months
- Residency Research Project - 12 months
- Staffing (every 4th weekend, one second shift worked per month, and 3 holidays per year) - 12 months
- Elective Longitudinal Experience
- Longitudinal Heart Failure Clinic - 3 months (1 quarter) with 2 clinic days completed per month
- Additional Experiences
- Longitudinal participation in a hospital committee
- Participation in Pharmacy Education Development and Lecture Series (PEDALS) teaching program through Ferris State University
- Includes presentation of 1 hour of continuing education (CE), a journal club, a patient case presentation, and optional involvement in a didactic course with a Ferris State University faculty mentor
- Involvement as a co-preceptor of students from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Ferris State University
- Professional pharmacy organization involvement opportunities with local and state organizations
