Paige Weaver, PharmD

2020 - 2021

After completing her PGY1 residency program, Paige accepted a PGY2 Critical Pharmacy Resident Position at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME.

Notable Accomplishments during Residency Year

  • Major Residency Project: Multi-centered retrospective study evaluating the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban as venous thromboembolism treatment in obese patients 
  • Medication use evaluation on tolvaptan that identified an improvement in alignment with evidence-based criteria for use.
  • Emergency medicine resident education for implementation of a behavioral activity rating scale to assess and treat agitation in the emergency department
  • Development of monograph and formulary recommendation for nebulized tranexamic acid for hemoptysis
  • Training, leadership, and maintenance of student-run smart pump rounds, which promoted the safe administration of intravenous fluids and medications 

Rochelle Brual, PharmD

2020 - 2021

After completing her PGY1 residency program, Rochelle accepted a PGY2 Emergency Medicine Resident Position at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.

Notable Accomplishments during Residency Year

  • Major Residency Project: The impact of paralytic dosing on first pass success in obese patients undergoing rapid sequence intubation in the emergency department
  • Medication use evaluation on remdesivir, which addressed the adherence to evidence-based criteria for use for patients with COVID-19
  • Evaluation of safety events with oral antidiabetic agents, which led to streamlining the available dosing frequencies for these agents to prevent future hypoglycemic events 
  • Evaluation of current peri-operative management of anticoagulants, which evaluated alignment with The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals 
  • Training, leadership, and maintenance of student-run smart pump rounds, which promoted the safe administration of intravenous fluids and medications

Karli Combs (Dooling), PharmD, BCPS

2019 - 2020

After completing her residency, Karli accepted a clinical / staff pharmacist position working 1st shift at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI. She also serves as a residency preceptor for the Adult Medicine, Neurotrauma ICU / Progressive Respiratory Care Unit (PRCU), and Staffing rotations at her practice site. She achieved board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in July 2021.

  • Major Residency Project: Justification and implementation of an anti-Xa guided enoxaparin dosing protocol in special populations
  • Publication in progress
  • Case report on management of antiphospholipid syndrome with argatroban accepted for publication
  • Development of monograph and formulary recommendation for umeclidinium / vilanterol / fluticasone furoate inhaler
  • Clinical service evaluation of pharmacist-driven acid suppressive therapy discontinuation protocol
  • Medication use evaluation on topical collagenase

Matthew Rico, PharmD

2019 - 2020

After completing his residency, Matt matched with and completed the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI.

Matt now practices as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist and The University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, OH, and serves as a preceptor for PGY1 residents and pharmacy students at his practice site.

Notable Accomplishments during Residency Year

  • Major Residency Project: Asymptomatic bacteriuria: impact of antimicrobial stewardship bundle to reduce unnecessary antibiotics in patients without urinary catheters  
  • Publication recently accepted 
  • Participation in intravenous minocycline formulary decision team  
  • Neuromuscular blocking agent (NMBA) prescribing / administration policy 
  • Facilitated implementation of pharmacist-driven QTc monitoring program for COVID-19 antimicrobials
  • Evaluation of oral antiretroviral medications and associated medication use errors

Asia Body, PharmD

2018 - 2019

After completing her residency, Asia accepted a 3rd shift clinical / staff pharmacist position working 3rd shift at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Detroit, MI.

Andrew Jennings, PharmD, BCPS

2018 - 2019

After completing his residency, Andrew accepted a clinical / staff pharmacist position working 3rd shift at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI.
After practicing in this position for a year, he matched with and completed the PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency Program at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham, NC. He achieved board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in December 2020. 

Andrew now practices as the Pharmacoeconomic and Procurement Supervisor at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, VA, and will be precepting PGY1 residents at his practice site.

Christopher (C.J.) Mickey, PharmD, BCPS

2017 - 2018

After completing his residency, C.J. accepted a clinical / staff pharmacist position on 2nd shift at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. He achieved board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in July 2019.

Tracie Motyka, PharmD, BCPS

2017 - 2018

After completing her residency, Tracie accepted a clinical / staff pharmacist position on 3rd shift at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI, and has recently moved to 1st shift and serves as a preceptor for the PGY1 residency program for the staffing learning experience. She achieved board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in December 2018 and also serves as a residency preceptor for the Staffing learning experience at her practice site.
