Resident Requirements

Program applicants must apply through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS).

  • Applicants must be graduates of accredited dental schools.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and eligible for a dental license in the state of Michigan.
  • Supplemental application to the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Resident Benefits

Residents receive a yearly stipend to cover the cost of textbooks, a computer every three years, courses, required program conferences, and a food stipend to use at all Henry Ford hospitals. Henry Ford offers a competitive salary. 

Application Process

Using the contact form below, submit three different weeks you would like to complete your externship. You will receive confirmation of one of your selections if available. Download the Externship Application (coming soon) and submit it with supporting documentation directly to the OMFS Program Coordinator, Jennifer Lucci, at jlucci1@hfhs.org for processing.

Employment Qualification

  • Permanent Resident of the United States or US Citizen
  • Graduated from an accredited dental school in the United States or Canada
  • Valid, Full Michigan Dental License (NERB or other board plus written NERB)
  • NPI Number
  • Personal DEA License

Resident Didactics

Didactics are held every Friday morning from 7 am-11 am. Residents participate in group discussions, case presentations, and journal clubs.

Physician Diagnosis Course

Residents are provided a structured six-week Physical Diagnosis Course taught by OMFS Faculty, which runs July through September on Fridays. Students gain knowledge and skills to perform a medical history and comprehensive physical exam. At the end of the course, students complete a skills exam at the Kado Skills Center at Wayne State School of Medicine.

On Call

Non-Categorical interns regularly participate in taking call alongside the OMFS PGY1 resident. Residents provide call coverage for Henry Ford Warren Hospital, Sinai Grace Hospital, and William Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak.
