Introduction

Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital is a 360-bed acute care facility nestled in south-east Michigan; only minutes from downtown Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Windsor, Canada. We service a population of 30,000 and are the only hospital in the Henry Ford Health on a body of water. Our pharmacy is decentralized and provides clinical support for general medicine, neurosurgical and oncology services, adult behavioral health, physical rehabilitation and our birthing center. We staff the emergency department with a pharmacist 24 hours a day and our floor pharmacists regularly attend codes and provide education to our patients.

Our PGY1 residency program offers a broad experience for residents in areas of internal medicine, critical care, emergency practice, oncology, management, and antimicrobial stewardship with additional opportunities among our health system.

Cool Facts About Wyandotte:

  • Downtown Wyandotte boasts a small, hometown feel with an artistic flair (art galleries, live music and street festivals every third Friday)
  • Wyandotte has the largest waterfront park in metro Detroit
  • Wyandotte has a skate/rollerblade park nearby
  • We are about 10 miles (20 minutes) south of the city of Detroit which offers a wide variety of food and nightlife options including unique lounges, an impressive coffee scene, and exceptional restaurants

Wyandotte is roughly:

  • 10 miles (20 minutes) south of Dearborn
  • 15 miles (20 minutes) to the Canadian border
  • 40 miles (45 minutes) to Ann Arbor
  • About 50 miles (1 hour) to Toledo, OH

ASHP’s PGY1 Program Purpose

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Residency Experience

Experiences throughout the year will include a wide variety of clinical rotations, transitions of care, code blue and stroke coverage, medication safety and other specialties such as pharmacokinetics and drug policy development. Each resident will present formal lectures, in-services and prepare a major project. Residents are provided opportunities to teach pharmacy students through affiliations with Wayne State University and University of Michigan programs.
