Ophthalmology Residency Program
The Henry Ford Warren Hospital (HFW) Ophthalmology Residency Program has received continued accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). ACGME sets the general requirements and prerequisites for the program, which are enforced by the Residency Review Committees (RRC).
Upon completion of our program, certification is provided by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). During the PGY1 year, residents must complete nine months of direct patient care training in the following rotations:
- Internal Medicine
- Endocrine
- Emergency Medicine
- Neurology
- Neuroradiology
- Rheumatology
- Infectious Disease
- Plastics
- ENT
- General Surgery
- The remaining three months in Ophthalmology
The remaining 36 months (PGY 2-4) will include training in direct Ophthalmology rotations. Individuals must complete all training in an accredited program in the US. Please check with the ABO before you enter the match or start your residency training.
Graduates of the program must complete the Board Certification process no more than six years after completion of residency training. All certificates require completion of a designated renewal program every ten years. For more information, visit the American Board of Ophthalmology's website at www.abop.org.
