About the Program Director
Dr. Benjamin Collins-Hamel, DO, the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician. He completed his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Collins-Hamel's clinical interests include Hypertension, Nephrology, Point-of-Care Ultrasound, and Clinical Reasoning. He is the Principal Investigator for the currently enrolling Lo-FERI trial and collaborates with residents and fellows to develop research projects from conception to realization.
Dr. Collins-Hamel is deeply passionate about education and seeks out teaching moments in both inpatient and outpatient settings for residents and patients alike. His involvement in medical education began as a frequent lecturer during residency, where he also contributed to shaping the didactic schedule as chief resident and developed an online curriculum as a core faculty member.
He continues to share his passion for teaching by speaking regularly for the Internal Medicine residency, Michigan State University Statewide Campus System, Michigan State University College of Medicine Medical Students, and as a guest lecturer for the OB-GYN residency and the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Collins-Hamel serves on multiple committees at Henry Ford Warren Hospital and is a member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation Scientific Advisory Board.
Outside of work, Dr. Collins-Hamel enjoys recording music, playing live with various groups, playing board games, and bicycling.
