Residency Requirements

Thank you for your interest in our Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

You must apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Applications are not considered unless accessible through ERAS. Candidates meeting program requirements and selected for an interview are notified via email.

Resident Benefits

Program trainees are provided with an annual Professional Development Fund (previously called Educational Stipend) which residents use to cover the cost of textbooks, computer, courses and conferences:

  • $1,000 for PGY-1 and PGY-2
  • $1,650 for PGY-3

Residents are also offered a food stipend of $1,500 annually which can be:

  • Option 1: Pre-paid in salary (taxable)
  • Option 2: Loaded onto a food card (no redeemable cash value at year’s end)
Resident Salaries for 2025-26 Academic Year

Henry Ford Health System offers a competitive salary:

  • PGY-1 - $66,691
  • PGY-2 - $69,176
  • PGY-3 - $71,658

Medical Students

We offer Emergency Medicine rotations in 4-week or monthly blocks at our two locations, Henry Ford Warren Hospital and Henry Ford Madison Heights.

Rotation Locations

Our Warren Campus is a multiple physician Level III Trauma Center with an annual volume of approximately 80,000 patients. Our Madison Heights Campus, located less than five miles away, is a single coverage community emergency department with an annual patient volume of approximately 30,000 patients.
