At Henry Ford, we believe in empowering the next generation of leaders in Critical Care Medicine. Our fellowship program is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience that prepares our graduates for the challenges and opportunities encountered as intensivists in Critical Care Medicine. Here’s how our curriculum stands out:

  • Comprehensive Teaching: Fellows have protected didactic time that provides structured education on a variety of critical care topics designed to cover high yield board topics. Guest speakers are welcomed twice monthly from a variety of subspecialties to provide detailed education with various areas of expertise including, Neurology Critical Care, Ultrasound, Toxicology, Addiction Medicine, Ethics, Cardiology, Pulmonary Hypertension, Interstitial Lung Disease etc.
  • ICU-centric Curriculum: Our program emphasizes hands-on experience in a variety of intensive care settings. Fellows rotate through medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiac ICUs, providing them with comprehensive exposure to diverse patient populations in critical care medicine. Sample one and two-year curriculums are readily available, providing fellows with pathways to customize their training experience based on their individual career goals and interests.
  • Specialized Tracks: Recognizing the diverse interests and career aspirations of our fellows, we offer specialized tracks tailored to different areas within Critical Care Medicine. Whether you are interested in ECMO, Medical Education, or Ultrasound, our program ensures targeted learning experiences.
    1. Critical Care Fellows are given the chance to gain a letter of ECMO certification after completing ECMO didactics, simulation, scholarly activity, quality review and clinical management.
    2. The Medical Education track is designed for fellows interested in pursuing a medical education endorsement. Following a structured curriculum, they will target specific ACGME milestones including administration, DEIJ, and educational theory and practice. Upon completion of this track, graduates will receive a Henry Ford Health Medical Education Endorsement.
    3. Fellows interested in Ultrasound can complete a comprehensive curriculum that blends instructional sessions with self-guided learning, overseen by board-certified echo trained staff. After completing the structured didactic components, participating in quality reviews, and demonstrating proficiency in performing and interpreting echocardiograms, fellows receive a notarized letter certifying their completion. This certification enables them to qualify for the echo boards and pursue board certification in the field.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Our fellows have the opportunity to be paired with a dedicated mentor who provides guidance, support, and personalized advice throughout their training.
  • Research and Innovation: Fellows have access to research opportunities working alongside top experts in critical care and pulmonary medicine. The Sladen Library at Henry Ford provides supplementary services including guidance on journal publishing, assistance with grant and conference abstract writing, strategies for conducting meta-analysis searches, and comprehensive literature searches.
  • Lifelong Learning Community: Our fellowship program fosters a community of lifelong learners. Even after completing the program, fellows remain connected through alumni networks, continuing education opportunities, and ongoing support from the Henry Ford community.
