Screening and Testing
Hearing screenings are routinely carried out in infants at birth. Adult hearing screenings are common, and can be found online, as well as at health fairs or in a primary care physician’s office. They are useful, as they often provide the first indication of hearing loss in an individual. However, they are far from thorough and certainly do not offer the level of detail necessary to discern the cause of hearing loss or prescribe hearing aids.
For those who don’t pass an initial screening, Henry Ford’s Doctors of Audiology offer state-of-the-art audiometric exams for newborns, children and adults.
