Outpatient Pediatric Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship

The Division of Speech-Language Sciences and Disorders, Department of Neurology is recruiting a speech-language pathology clinical fellow to train with our pediatric team in Southeast Michigan.

We are accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month outpatient SLP CF position. We are seeking applicants interested in gaining expertise in evaluation and treatment of outpatient pediatric populations with a variety of communication disorders, including: mixed expressive receptive language delay/disorder, developmental articulation/phonological disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, and autism. The candidate must have a strong academic background, be highly motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be ready to work in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment.

Job description:

  • Our SLP CF satisfies accreditation requirements for ASHA CCCs and Michigan licensure.
  • The anticipated start date for this fellowship is June.
  • The outpatient pediatric SLP team provides evaluation and treatment in-person and via telehealth.
  • Additional opportunities:
    • Observation/participation in multidisciplinary autism assessment clinic in The Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD)
    • Observation of multidisciplinary cleft palate clinic
    • Observation of and possible collaboration with ABA therapists
    • Opportunity for additional presentation and conference attendance associated with CADD
      • Metro Parent annual autism event
    • Opportunities to present at MSHA, ASHA, or other conferences based on CF’s interest and other staff’s interests
    • Opportunities to observe specialized adult care, such as head and neck cancer clinic, and acute care among others.

Preferred Candidates will have the following:

  • Internship/externship experience in pediatric speech-language pathology, ideally with children under the age of 5
  • Strong interest in pediatrics
  • Strong desire to increase knowledge and skill in working with children across a range of communication disorders
