We accept most insurance plans. Several Henry Ford Pharmacy locations also have the ability to bill Medicare Part B.

All Henry Ford Pharmacies will work closely with your doctor and/or insurance company to obtain prior authorizations if needed. Our organization has partnerships with a large number of non-profit foundations to help provide financial assistance, making medications affordable.

In most cases, your pharmacy of choice will need to contact Henry Ford Pharmacy to request a prescription transfer. Please allow at least 24 hours before contacting your new pharmacy to coordinate your medication refill and delivery. It is important to make sure you have a sufficient medication supply before requesting the transfer to avoid an interruption in therapy.

  2. Call your local Henry Ford Pharmacy. Find a pharmacy.
  3. Creating an account and managing your prescriptions online through our website.
  4. Downloading the Henry Ford Pharmacy mobile app to your smart phone or tablet via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

B. Please call Henry Ford Pharmacy at least five business days prior to needing your next refill.

    When speaking to a representative they may ask the following questions:
  • How are you tolerating the medication or therapy?
  • Have there been any changes to your medication?
  • Do you still take the same dose or strength?

C. If there are no refills remaining on your prescription, the pharmacy will call or fax your doctor’s office.

D. Stay ahead of possible delays in your therapy by requesting refills as soon as they are available. 

A pharmacy representative will contact your prescriber if the prescription you requested is out of refills. For certain medications, your provider may need to speak with you and/or you may need to be seen by your provider for additional refills. Henry Ford Pharmacy will transfer your prescription to any pharmacy your insurance allows as long as it is within state laws and federal regulation.

Yes, we offer free delivery. Please contact your Henry Ford Pharmacy for details.

Henry Ford Pharmacy will check for an active prescription. If we do not have an active prescription on file, we will reach out to your prescriber for a refill. A pharmacist will determine when you will need your prescription to avoid an interruption in your therapy. Based on when you will need your prescription, and the type of medication you are requesting, your medication will be shipped to you next day or in some cases same day. It also may be possible for you to pick up your prescription at a convenient Henry Ford Retail Pharmacy Location or a pharmacy of patient’s choice.

  • For Oral Chemotherapy patients, you normally will not have pills left over, however if you do, DO NOT flush them down the toilet or sink. Chemotherapy drugs are typically not accepted at independently hosted take back locations. Please do the following:
    • Take them to your next appointment with your Hematologist/Oncologist
    • Call your local health department for locations in your area to dispose of oral chemotherapy

Proper drug disposal is important because it helps protect human health and our environment. Unwanted medication should not be flushed down the drain. Medications should be kept secure when in the home to prevent children, family, or friends from accidently taking or misusing your medication. When drugs are no longer needed, they should be taken to a collection site for incineration to destroy the chemicals within them and prevent them from entering the water resources we use for drinking water.

Call 911 immediately if someone is experiencing a medical emergency or any of the following:

  • Severe difficulty breathing, especially if there is no improvement with rest
  • Chest pain
  • A fast heartbeat (more than 120-150) at rest, especially with shortness of breath or feeling faint
  • Difficulty speaking, numbness, or weakness of any part of the body
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness or mental changes (confusion, very odd behavior, difficulty walking/standing)
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Heavy bleeding from the mouth, nose, ear, vagina, or rectum that continues
  • Bleeding from any wound that will not stop with direct pressure
  • Extremely hot or cold body temperature and the person appears ill or less responsive
  • Choking
  • Poisoning
  • Drug overdose
  • New severe headache
  • Sudden intense severe pain
  • Someone makes a credible threat to hurt or kill themselves or someone else
  • Allergic reaction, especially if there is any difficulty breathing
  • Seizures

How does Medicare Part D work?

Medicare Part D is a government benefit that provides coverage for prescription drugs and is generally available to people aged 65 years and older, people younger than 65 years with certain disabilities, and people of all ages with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

The two types of Medicare prescription drug plans are:

Part C: Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (MA-PD)

This is a managed care plan that offers coverage for Medicare Parts A, B, and D. These types of plans are run by insurance companies and other private companies approved by Medicare. The costs and types of drugs covered in each plan may vary.

Part D: Prescription Drug Plan (PDP)

The PDP provides coverage for drugs that are typically obtained at a participating pharmacy for people with original Medicare (Parts A and B) and certain other plans.

Medicare Part D plan costs and the coverage patients receive may vary by plan and change every year. Patients are encouraged to review their current plan materials each year and compare them with other plans to ensure that they are enrolled with the most appropriate coverage option. Patients can visit www.Medicare.gov to enroll in the Medicare plan that is best for them.

Certain patients may be eligible to receive financial assistance to pay for their Medicare prescription drug plan. Financial assistance may be available for patients with limited income through Medicare’s Extra Help program (also known as Low Income Subsidy (LIS). Patients can visit www.ssa.gov/medicare/part-d-extra-help to learn more.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) impacted Medicare Part D and introduced changes that enhance patient affordability. Beginning in 2025, additional changes include:

$2000 Annual Out-of-Pocket (OOP) Maximum: Patients will have a cap of $2,000 on their yearly prescription drug spending. After reaching this limit, all additional covered medication costs will be fully covered for the rest of the year.

Elimination of the Coverage Gap (“Donut Hole”): Part D enrollees will no longer face cost sharing for a drug once they reach the catastrophic Coverage phase; they will have no additional costs after reaching that $2,000 out-of-pocket maximum.

Introduction of the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P): This new option allows patients to spread their out-of-pocket costs over the year, making it easier to manage medication expenses with monthly payments.

These enhancements were designed to help make prescription medications more affordable and accessible for patients on Medicare. Please see below for the base structure around cost-sharing under Medicare Part D. Your patients’ plan may vary slightly.

2025 Medicare Part D - Cost Sharing
Keep in mind that the Coverage Gap, previously referred to as the “Donut Hole,” has been eliminated as noted above.

Phase 1 Deductible: Enrollees are responsible for 100% of their drug costs up to the annual deductible of $590. Once the deductible is met, the enrollee enters the next phase.

Phase 2 Initial Coverage: Enrollees are responsible for 25% coinsurance for covered Part D drugs until their total out-of-pocket expenses reach $2,000.

Phase 3 Catastrophic: In this phase, the enrollee pays no cost sharing for covered Part D drugs. That shared cost is between the health plan and the drug manufacturer.

What is the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P)?

Patients with Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan may now opt-in to spread their OOP prescription costs over the course of the year rather than pay them all at once.

M3P is an optional program with no enrollment fees. Participants can pay $0 at the pharmacy for covered Part D drugs, with costs billed monthly by their health plan.

Patients on high-cost therapy may be notified by their health plan or pharmacy regarding eligibility and enrollment.

Patients must actively enroll in the payment plan – it is not automatic. Although their health plan or pharmacy may notify them of eligibility, enrollment requires their action. Patients can enroll during the 2025 Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15-December 7, 2024)

Payments may vary each month based on the new prescriptions or refills. To spread the costs of a prescription, patients must be enrolled in M3P at the time of filling the prescription. While patients may benefit most from enrolling early in the year, they can still enroll at any time.

Henry Ford Pharmacy has a dedicated team trained to assess each individual situation based on drug, insurance, and benefit plan.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers a limited number of outpatient prescription drugs under limited conditions. Usually, Part B covers drugs you wouldn’t usually give to yourself, like those you get at a doctor’s office or hospital outpatient setting.

Medicare Part D is a prescription drug coverage pharmacy benefit. Medicare Part D plans (PDP) help pay for medications prescribed by a doctor drugs that are self-administered and include orals, self-injectable, or a route of administration a patient can manage at home.

Part D plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. The types of drugs covered is decided by the U.S. government. Beyond that list, every Medicare Part D plan covers a different set of drugs. When choosing a Part D plan, you need to make sure it covers the drugs you take.

All Medicare Part D plans have a drug list — also called a formulary — that gives you the information you need about which drugs are covered. The formulary can change, but your plan will let you know ahead of time if it does. The formulary will also tell you if your drug has any special rules or limits. Your plan will send you your formulary and/or give you a way to get all your drug list information online.

Most Medicare Part C plans already include Part D prescription drug coverage, combined into a single plan with hospital and medical. Another option is to have a separate Part D plan in addition to Original Medicare, a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan, or a Private Fee-For-Service plan without drug coverage.

Billing and Payment

No, your co-pay amount is set by your insurance provider. You will pay the same co-pay amount through Henry Ford Pharmacies that you would incur at other retail pharmacy chains.*

If you are a cash paying patient or have no insurance coverage for certain medications, Henry Ford Pharmacy staff will work with you to provide competitive pricing.

* Some insurance plans require patients to go through a contracted pharmacy for certain medications. If this scenario does occur, Henry Ford pharmacy staff will present your options and help you locate your contracted pharmacy to fill the prescription(s).

Henry Ford Pharmacy will accept payments made by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, & American Express), debit card, mailed in checks or money order, and selected FSA or HSA accounts. Your benefit plan may require certain out-of-pocket costs (copays or deductibles) for your prescriptions. Henry Ford Pharmacy thoroughly investigates your insurance benefits for the lowest out-of-pocket costs.

Our experienced pharmacy team will research all available options for financial assistance related to your condition. We collaborate with manufacturers and foundations to help obtain the lowest available out of pocket cost for our patients. Based on your financial needs, the pharmacy may be able to set up a payment plan agreement for you.


Medication Accessibility

Most prescriptions can be filled through Henry Ford Pharmacy, however, in some cases your health insurance plan may require you to use a preferred pharmacy. If your insurance mandates your prescription to another pharmacy, a Henry Ford Pharmacy representative will transfer your prescription to the appropriate pharmacy and contact you with the transfer details.

The coolers we use to ship medications, our paper products, and plastic prescription bottles are all recyclable. Our cooler boxes are cardboard and the insulation in the coolers are made from recycled plastic bottles. We have greatly reduced our paper waste by increasing our use of electronic forms of communication such as electronic prescription prescribing. We provide information on prescription “take back” locations to our patients for unused prescription drugs to encourage proper safe disposal.
