Biographical Statement
Nabeel A. Shakir, M.D., is Director of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery at the Vattikuti Urology Institute. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma and obtained his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was selected for the Medical Research Scholars Program at the National Institutes of Health, where he gained experience with advanced clinical research methods and urologic imaging modalities. Subsequently, he completed his residency in urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He then trained in the subspecialty of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery at New York University Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Shakir’s clinical expertise includes bladder neck obstruction, urethral stricture, urinary fistula, ureteral obstruction, and urinary diversion, as well as genitoplastic surgery, gender affirming surgery, post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence, and urologic congenitalism. He has significant experience with minimally invasive procedures and, in particular, single-port robotic surgery. Dr. Shakir’s research interests include clinical decision aids, surgical education, and patient-centered outcomes. He seeks to empower patients to be partners in their health, to innovate novel treatments and bridge gaps in care, and to identify and teach future leaders in reconstructive urology.
