Henry Ford Health Invites Community to Groundbreaking Celebration
A historic project calls for a big party, and that’s exactly what the community will find as the Henry Ford Health team celebrates the groundbreaking of its history-making Detroit hospital expansion project on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 1 to 6 p.m.
The $2.2 billion dollar project will be Henry Ford Health’s most significant investment in the city of Detroit since it opened its doors nearly 110 years ago. The plan, anchored by a new, state-of-the-art hospital facility, also represents the single largest healthcare investment in Detroit’s history.
“All of this is for our community and for our team, so we hope our neighbors will find some time in their day to join us,” said Mary Jane Vogt, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “There is nothing more important to us than serving our community at our hospitals and clinics. We hope they’ll join us outside those walls to celebrate this milestone on the way to providing the healthcare of the future.”
The community is invited to join Henry Ford team members in the green space next to the Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion, located across West Grand Boulevard from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Adults and children alike can participate in free activities such as:
- “Silent Disco Yoga” hosted by Detroit-based City Glow Yoga
- Painting a brand-new mural created for the new hospital facility by local artist Meg Heeres
- Decorating a hard hat to take home as a keepsake
- Stretching, dribbling and teamwork drills with the Detroit Pistons Academy staff
- Physical rehabilitation equipment demonstrations with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
- Important health screenings
- A job fair
- Meet & greet with Hooper and the Detroit Pistons dancers and drumline
- A performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
DJ Don Mecca will keep the party going throughout the afternoon. Visitors may purchase local fare from food trucks that will line West Grand Boulevard.
Free parking and shuttle service to the festival area will be available at the Baltimore Garage at 645 W. Baltimore St. Bags and weapons will not be permitted inside the celebration area. The community is asked to kindly RSVP via Eventbrite.
A groundbreaking news conference will precede the celebration.
