Henry Ford Medical Group Announces New Chair of Radiology

Dr. Sabala Mandava succeeds Dr. Manuel Brown, who served as Chair of Radiology for the past 23 years.

DETROIT (Jan. 22, 2024) – Henry Ford Medical Group, part of Henry Ford Health and one of the nation’s largest and most experienced group practices, is proud to announce the appointment of Sabala Mandava, M.D., as Chair of its Department of Radiology, effective Feb. 12. Dr. Mandava succeeds Manuel Brown, M.D., who has admirably led the department for over two decades.

Dr. Mandava, a distinguished radiologist and a leader in breast imaging, has been with HFMG since 2004. Her exemplary service as the Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology and Director of the Division of Breast Imaging has been marked by significant contributions to patient care, research, and education.

Dr. Mandava is renowned for her work in breast imaging and cancer screening. She has authored significant publications and has been actively involved in groundbreaking clinical trials. Her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare, alongside her international outreach efforts, exemplifies her holistic approach to medicine and leadership.

A graduate of Guntur Medical College in India, Dr. Mandava completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Michigan State University and a fellowship in Women's Imaging at Henry Ford Hospital. Her journey with Henry Ford Health has included several key leadership roles, such as serving as Senior Staff Radiologist, Director of the Division of Breast Imaging, and Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mandava has been at the forefront of clinical research and education. She is a principal investigator in several influential clinical trials, focusing on advancing breast cancer screening and detection. Her contributions to medical literature are noteworthy, including authoring significant publications such as "Breast Imaging Review: A Quick Guide to Essential Diagnoses" and "Breast Imaging: A Core Review." Her active participation in various committees, including serving as the immediate past Chair of the State of Michigan Women’s Commission and serving on the Henry Ford Health Board of Governors, reflects her broad expertise and commitment to healthcare advocacy.

Dr. Mandava’s appointment as Chair of Radiology is not only a milestone for Henry Ford Medical Group, but also a testament to her dedication, expertise, and vision in the field of Radiology.
