Improving Spine Surgery Results
Henry Ford serves as the Coordinating Center for the Michigan Spine Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MSSIC), a statewide collaboration of neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons and hospitals working to improve the quality of care and results for spine surgery patients in Michigan. We analyze comprehensive clinical data from the participating to identify and implement best practices. Funding is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN). BCBSM’s Value Partnerships program provides clinical and executive support for all Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
How does this benefit me?
As part of MSSIC, we track spine surgeries over time to see how you're doing. All patients who are having cervical or lumbar surgery complete a questionnaire before surgery, 90 days after surgery, and at 12 and 24 months after your surgery.
Your answers are de-identified to protect your privacy. We use this information to better understand which approaches to surgery are most effective and provide the best possible results with the fewest complications.
MSSIC also provides patient education resources, including an animated video and other tips for a successful recovery and information on opioids.
