What makes Henry Ford EM/IM special to you: The clinical experience is unparalleled combining rare and exciting pathology, exposure to a plethora of procedures, and graduated responsibility throughout the course of six years. Our program trains us to be superb clinicians, which is what I love about it. In addition, you have the pleasure of teaching medical students throughout the whole six years, which solidifies your own knowledge through teaching and allows you to share the joy of learning medicine! You will rotate through almost every department in the hospital becoming familiar with many residents and staff, which provides you with a unique position to bridge emergency medicine and internal medicine. Finally, the people in the program are amazing, truly making it feel like a family, which is important since you will devote over half a decade to training together!

What makes Henry Ford EM/IM special to you: lots of great things! Many programs offer great EM/IM/CC mentorship, valuable camaraderie among co-residents, and opportunities to participate in research and attend conferences. Ford is no different. A few things that stand out about our program include: resident opportunities to get involved in committees like public health and diversity equity and inclusion, one of the largest ICUs in the country, faculty support for external projects, ED residents running traumas and generally having first pass at procedures, specialty based internal medicine floors (i.e. the primary attending physician for a given patient is often the specialist rather than the specialist acting as a consultant), regular simulation training, almost guaranteed access to research dollars, graduated responsibility in the emergency department, excellent outpatient preceptors, 6-year CC option.

What makes Henry Ford EM/IM special to you: Though I am relatively new, I specifically sought out Henry Ford as the program strikes an excellent balance between clinical proficiency and academic endeavors. As well, Ford offers comparably strong Emergency and Internal Programs, ensuring you get a balanced training as opposed to feeling more embedded in one program over the other. Last, the availability of a sixth year critical care option is a valuable option for those considering that pathway.

What makes Henry Ford EM/IM special to you: I’m just getting my feet wet, but I chose to come here for the focus on great clinical training, boundless opportunities to care for sick patients, and flexibility to tailor the EM/IM experience as I refine my interests. I have really enjoyed the chance to care for sick patients in a busy ED and then to be on the medicine floors with a bit more time to think critically about similar patients. Having sub-specialty floors (i.e.my first inpatient month was on a pulmonology inpatient floor) is especially valuable for gaining in-depth training very relevant to practice in the ED.
