Antimicrobial Stewardship Program

Our mission as stewards is to optimize patient outcomes, decrease patient harm and drug resistance through considered and evidence-driven antimicrobial prescribing and education.

The Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Henry Ford Health System leadership comprises Dr Allison Weinmann, MBBS, FRACP, FIDSA, System Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship in close collaboration with pharmacy specialist Rachel Kenny, Pharm D, BCIDP. Additionally, every hospital site has local leadership which is comprised of both an Infectious Diseases physician and an Infectious Diseases trained pharmacist. We are fortunate to work closely with our microbiology lab leadership; Infection Prevention and Control colleagues in addition to our Infectious Diseases Division, comprised of both fellows and faculty all of whom are members of the Henry Ford Medical Group. Our Ambulatory Stewardship committee leads our outpatient prescribing efforts and reports up through our monthly multidisciplinary physician led System Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. The ASP program is also involved in clinical research which supports our academic mission.

We are proud to participate in the Hospital Medical Safety Consortium at the state level, report our data to the National Health and Safety Network for stewardship benchmarking nationally in addition to supporting many other local, state, and national and international initiatives.

Our flagship hospital, Henry Ford Health System, has been awarded the Infectious Diseases Society of America Center of Excellence award.
