Nakia V Allen, MD

Biographical Statement

Dr. Allen serves as a Senior Staff Pediatrician at Henry Ford Health, concurrently holding the position of Director for Undergraduate Medical Education. In this role, she oversees the medical student education programs across our Jackson, Wyandotte, Henry Ford Main, and Macomb campuses. These programs host students from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Wayne State University.

Dr. Allen graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her residency training at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, followed by a Chief Residency year. Her clinical interests encompass all stages of pediatric care, with a strong emphasis on integrating community resources to address the social determinants of health and exploring the crucial intersection of education and healthcare.

Within her teaching roles, Dr. Allen is dedicated to ensuring that medical students and resident physicians develop the necessary expertise to provide high-quality pediatric care within an urban setting.

Research Interests

Dr. Allen's research interests encompass two key areas. Firstly, she investigates the influence of parenting styles and practices on pediatric healthcare outcomes. Secondly, she actively challenges the misconception that race alone can adequately explain persistent health disparities within the healthcare system.

From an educational perspective, Dr. Allen is dedicated to developing innovative teaching methodologies that equip medical students with the necessary skills to provide comprehensive and culturally sensitive healthcare to their patients.
