DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System announced today the opening of a retail pharmacy at the MGM Grand Detroit to meet the health care needs of the casino’s 3,000 employees and their family members as well as the general public.

The 600-square-foot pharmacy represents Henry Ford’s sixth in the city of Detroit and first in a non-Henry Ford medical facility.

The Henry Ford Pharmacy at MGM Grand Detroit, 1777 Third Street between I-75 and Bagley, is located on the first floor between the Michigan Gaming Control Board office and Roasted Bean Coffee Shop. The pharmacy is open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Monday – Sunday and holidays and staffed by a team of Henry Ford pharmacists and pharmacy techs.

Henry Ford operates 30 pharmacies in southeast Michigan and one in Jackson.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to meet the health care needs of our patients and members close to work and home,” says Bob Riney, Henry Ford’s president of Healthcare Operations and chief operating officer. “The employees of MGM Grand Detroit and their families have put their trust in Henry Ford for their health care and wellness needs. We are so pleased to serve their pharmacy needs in this convenient way as well.”

Riney said the health system is also exploring future opportunities to bring other services onsite such as health screenings and immunizations.

“We are excited to welcome the Henry Ford Pharmacy to MGM Grand Detroit and offer a convenient location for our employees and the community to access a pharmacist,” says David Tsai, MGM Grand Detroit’s President and COO. “We strive to give our guests the best experience when visiting our facility and to be at the forefront of meeting their needs.”

The pharmacy will also appeal to other businesses in the city for which Henry Ford provides occupational health services.

The pharmacy provides a comprehensive range of prescription medicines and services including:

  • Electronic and paper prescriptions.
  • Prescription transfers for MGM Casino employees and their family members and casino guests.
  • Online refills.
  • Medication therapy management for diseases and medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, Crohn’s, infertility, migraine, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis and arthritis.
  • Medication delivery.
  • Specialty pharmacy medications and home delivery.
  • Over-the-counter medicines and monthly specials.

For safety reasons at the request of MGM Grand Detroit management, the pharmacy will not carry narcotic medicines or fill prescriptions for narcotic medicines onsite. Narcotics are controlled substances such as oxycontin, Vicodin and fentanyl.

“Our patients and customers can expect the same level of exceptional service we provide at our other pharmacies,” says David Shepherd, president and CEO of Community Care Services, which oversees retail pharmacy operation and other Henry Ford services and products. “In addition to meeting their prescription needs, our pharmacists can offer advice to patients and customers for how to avoid potential drug interactions.”

As is standard practice, Henry Ford accepts most insurance plans for health care services including pharmacy. The pharmacy will also bill Medicare Part B for qualified prescriptions. Payment options include cash, credit card and personal check.
