Center for Comprehensive MS Care

Experts at Henry Ford Health understand the concern that comes with a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. We bring together all the services you need in one program and tailor therapies to align with your goals. Our commitment to comprehensive MS care has earned our program prestigious recognition from the National MS Society.

Multiple Sclerosis Care at Henry Ford: Why choose us?

Henry Ford Health was the first program in Michigan to earn Center for Comprehensive MS Care designation from the National MS Society. This distinction reflects our commitment to high standards and research-based practices.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Advanced MS treatments: If standard therapies don’t bring you relief, there’s still hope. We offer newly approved MS medications that give you more options for healing. For abnormally tight muscles (spasticity), you may benefit from Botox® injections or baclofen pump therapy.
  • Innovation: We are leading research that’s uncovering new clinical knowledge. Efforts include exploring why some patients experience more severe forms of the disease and factors that allow it to progress. We also lead national and international clinical trials testing new MS treatments.
  • Virtual care options: Established patients who have completed their initial consultation have the option of receiving some services from home. Get more information about virtual care for neurologic conditions.

Team approach to comprehensive MS care

Our monthly clinic enables eligible patients to see multiple providers in one visit, including:

We work with additional Henry Ford doctors to coordinate services that prevent, manage and treat complications. Our extended team includes:

Nurse coordinator support

You have the full support of our team from the very beginning. Our dedicated MS nurse coordinator helps you navigate medical, personal and practical challenges of living with MS by:

  • Obtaining insurance approvals for MS treatments, like specialty medications
  • Educating you and your loved ones about MS testing and treatment
  • Explaining how treatments work and how to give yourself injections, if necessary
  • Assisting you in applying for insurance or disability benefits
  • Providing emotional support
  • Accessing resources available through the National MS Society, like support groups

MS and pregnancy

MS medications can be harmful to an unborn child. But this doesn’t mean you have to put your plans for starting a family on hold. If you have MS and wish to become pregnant, we help you plan for your future.

  • Before getting pregnant: We discuss when it’s best to go off MS medications and what to expect. Most women with MS who become pregnant experience less severe symptoms during pregnancy.
  • After having your baby: If you wish to breastfeed, you will need to wait to resume MS medications. If MS symptoms are getting in the way of daily life, you may wish to go back on the drugs and not breastfeed. We help you navigate these decisions and make the choices that are right for you.
