Neuroscience innovation at Henry Ford
Henry Ford is home to specialty programs that use leading methods to evaluate and treat neurological disorders. Our active role in research and clinical trials gives you access to new care methods, often years before they become standard practice.
Highlights of our programs and their contributions to the field include:
- Cerebrovascular Center: In the 1980s, our program was the first in the region delivering specialized care for conditions affecting blood vessels in the brain. Our discoveries in this area have earned Henry Ford international recognition.
- Cognitive Health, Neuroinflammatory and Neuromuscular Disease centers: Our specialized experts and multi-disciplinary clinics help diagnose, treat and manage a range of debilitating conditions like MS, myasthenia gravis, Alzheimer’s, dementia and more.
- Epilepsy Center: Henry Ford was the first program in Michigan to offer deep brain stimulation (DBS) for epilepsy. This treatment uses an implantable device to quiet brain activity that causes seizures.
- Headache and Facial Pain Center: We offer clinical trials exploring new medications for headaches that do not respond to standard therapies. You have access to the full range of services, including injections, infusions and procedures.
- Hermelin Brain Tumor Center: As a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, we offer access to clinical trials that are only available in select programs nationwide.
- Movement Disorders Center: Henry Ford was the first program in the US offering the Vercise Genus™ deep brain stimulation system for Parkinson's disease. This device delivers focused electrical signals to the brain, helping patients achieve better symptom control.
- Neurosurgery: We were the first program in Michigan to use intraoperative imaging with MRI. This technique makes brain surgery safer and more precise.
- Skull Base, Pituitary and Endoscopy Center: We are among a small number of programs in Michigan with experienced skull base experts.
- Spine disorders and neurotrauma: Our collaborative team includes fellowship-trained doctors with advanced training in spine surgery and sports medicine. One of the busiest programs in Michigan, Henry Ford was the first to employ minimally invasive spine surgery techniques.
- Stroke and Neurovascular Disease Center: Our team also includes one of the world’s first interventional neurologists. These specialists use minimally invasive techniques to remove clots that do not respond to clot-busting drugs.
