Please join physicians from Henry Ford for our next live Twitter surgery event on March 6th.
Dr. David Eisenstein will lead a surgical team from Henry Ford Hospital as they perform a robotic hysterectomy. The public will be able to receive updates and information from OR 25 at Henry Ford Hospital, and communicate with the surgeons via the Twitter microblogging service.
The case: The patient has symptoms of abnormal uterine bleeding and has known endometriosis that is distorting the anatomy. A minimally invasive approach will ensure completion of the hysterectomy and the removal of the right ovary affected by endometriosis without a large incision. The robotic "endowristed" instruments allow for precise tissue dissection without a large incision.
The procedure: A robotic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive alternative to an open hysterectomy. This approach allows for a smaller incision, less post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, and a quicker return to normal activity than an open procedure. Henry Ford Hospital has performed 120 gynecological robotic procedures including myomectomies and hysterectomies.
How to follow the case: The case can be followed on Twitter. Information will be posted under @henryfordnews. Posts will be identified with the #HFHGyn tag. Questions for the surgeons are encouraged and should be addressed to @henryfordnews with the same tag. The case is scheduled for March 6th and will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m.
