Recent Awards, Certifications, and Recognition

Henry Ford Health System

  • National Business Group on Health and the VHA Foundation National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award in 2008.
  • The Michigan Quality Council awarded Henry Ford Health System the 2007 Quality Leadership Award, the highest honor for organizational performance in the state. The Michigan Quality Leadership Award is Michigan's version of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and Henry Ford is one of only two health care systems in metro Detroit to receive this award.
  • Henry Ford Health System has been selected as one of the 100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders by the Thomson Reuters study which identified hospitals that demonstrated the fastest, most consistent improvement in the nation over five consecutive years. Thomson Reuters is the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals.

Henry Ford Hospital

  • Henry Ford Hospital has earned a Governor's Award for Quality for more than three years in a row.
  • For the third consecutive year, the National Research Corporation (NRC) named Henry Ford Hospital as the winner of the Consumer Choice Award for Best Overall Quality for the Detroit/Wayne County area. The award identifies those hospitals which health care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in more than 190 markets throughout the U.S.
  • Alliance of Healthcare Providers selected Henry Ford Hospital as a 2007-2008 Hospital of Choice Award. This award was designed to identify America's Most Customer-friendly Hospitals. The award recognizes "those hospitals that go beyond their walls in pursuit of excellence and quality care - hospitals that have developed a collaborative relationship with physicians and healthcare organizations in the community, as well as managed care organizations and other payors."
  • Henry Ford Hospital was awarded the bronze award for stroke care by the American Heart Association in 2008.
  • Henry Ford Hospital was one of 270 hospitals across the United States to earn the 2009 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence presented by the health care rating organization HealthGrades. The winning hospitals collectively had a 27 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality rate and an 8 percent lower risk-adjusted inpatient complication rate for Medicare patients.
  • Henry Ford Hospital was named one of the nation's top 100 hospitals for the treatment of stroke, according to a study released by HCIA-Sachs Institute. The ranking indicates more people treated at the top 100 hospitals survive with fewer complications than at most hospitals in the country. 
  • Henry Ford Hospital was awarded the bronze award for stroke care by the American Heart Association in 2008.

Physicians

  • Henry Ford Medical Group: Diabetes Physicians Recognition Program, 2008 certification by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in partnership with the American Diabetes Association. This program recognizes physicians who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to patients with diabetes.
  • Henry Ford Medical Group and Health Alliance Plan: 2007 Award from the NCQA for Recognizing Innovation in Multicultural Health Care. The Henry Ford teams worked with the three automotive companies to improve breast cancer screening rates in African American women employees and their dependents, as well as asthma care in African American employees and their dependents

Clinical Programs

  • Josephine Ford Cancer Center received a special Center Designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for Complex and Rare Cancers, one of only three in the state. 
  • Henry Ford Behavioral Health Services earned the 2006 Joint Commission Ernest Amory Codman Award for its achievements in suicide prevention and the Perfect Depression Care program. The Codman award is the Joint Commission's premier quality award.
